Cellular Phones —
Cellular phones have become quite common at present times. You could even hardly begin to think what will happen to the world without these handy communications devices. Contrary to popular belief, the concept for mobile phones was already in existence since the first decade of the twentieth century. However, it was not until four decades later that cellular technology was fully utilized. Now, it is a common gadget carried
around by myriads of people and using it seems to be as normal as tying your shoes. But have you ever stopped to think how cellular phones work
Way back in the early nineteen hundreds, a wireless telephone, which was generally thought of as harbinger of mobile phones, was invented by an American and was referred to as cave radio telephones. It was not until the late nineteen forties that cellular telephony and the use of base stations was developed by engineers of Bell Labs. These types of mobiles phones were then used for military purposes due to their ease of use and clear transmissions.
Basically, cell phones actually utilize radio frequencies to broadcast their signals. The difference between lies in the fact that cellular phones utilize systems that are composed of a series of base stations called cells which are strategically located in a given geographical area. In the past, base stations utilize channels to enable cellular phones to communicate with each other. A number of assigned channels are utilized by different cells for as long as they are not close to each other. This is designed as such in order to minimize interference that can happen if channels are near to one another. New digital technology, however, dispensed with this type of method and instead opted to receive and broadcast code directly to cellular phones.
